Michael Nance focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, including pharmaceutical and patent litigation, products liability, and breach of contract.  Michael also has significant experience regarding breach of fiduciary duty, merger disputes, and internal investigations.

Michael joined Bartlit Beck in 2021, after starting his career at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. While at Wachtell Lipton, Michael worked on a range of commercial litigation matters, conducted internal investigations, and counseled boards of directors and special committees regarding shareholder suits. Michael clerked for the Honorable Raymond Lohier, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 2016-2017, and the Honorable Edgardo Ramos of the Southern District of New York from 2017-2018. He graduated from Yale Law School in 2014 where he served as an editor of the Yale Journal of Securities Regulation.

Trial counsel for Gilead in a patent infringement case related to Gilead’s Biktarvy® HIV treatment.

State of New Mexico v. Walgreens (First Judicial District Court, Santa Fe, NM 2022)
Trial counsel for Walgreens in case brought by the New Mexico Attorney General alleging claims for public nuisance and unfair trade practices relating to Walgreens’ dispensing of prescription opioid medications. Trial lasted seven weeks in September and October 2022.

Cases Tried or Otherwise Taken to Judgment

Hamilton Sundstrand Camdenton Litigation (Camden County, Missouri)
Trial Counsel for Sundstrand in environmental tort cases claiming that alleged environmental contamination in and around Sundstrand’s Camdenton, Missouri facility caused plaintiffs’ personal injuries.  Nearly 30 cases are currently pending. 

  • Gray et al. v. Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
    Trial Counsel for Sundstrand in environmental tort case related to contamination of drinking water in community where Sundstrand’s former manufacturing facility was located.  Won a complete defense verdict for Sundstrand on plaintiffs’ claims for negligence and punitive damages following a 3-week jury trial.
  • Fitzgerald v. Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
    Trial Counsel for Sundstrand in environmental tort case related to chemical contamination in community where Sundstrand’s former manufacturing facility was located.  Case pending.
