Bartlit Beck Wins Patent Appeal For United Technologies Corporation
07.10.2019
On July 10, 2019, the Federal Circuit ruled that General Electric lacks standing to appeal a Patent Trial and Appeal Board decision in favor of Bartlit Beck client United Technologies Corporation. In 2016, GE challenged several patent claims related to jet engines on grounds of obviousness, and in 2017 the board rejected GE’s arguments. Bartlit Beck partner Michael Valaik argued both in front of the Federal Circuit and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Patrick Coyne, M. Andrew Holtman, Sydney Kestle, Benjamin Saidman, and Jeffrey Totten of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP served as co-counsel. The Federal Circuit’s opinion is here.
