Bartlit Beck Team Receives “Litigator of the Week” Runners-Up Honors by The American Lawyer
Bartlit Beck lawyers Nevin Gewertz, Andrew MacNally, and Cindy Sobel received “Litigator of the Week” runners-up honors by The American Lawyer following a victory in an appellate court for our clients, the former founders, employees, and early investors of FanDuel, reviving a suit that seeks damages for breaches of fiduciary duties by former members of the FanDuel board of directors and late-stage investors during a 2018 multi-billion-dollar merger.

”A Bartlit Beck team led by Nevin Gewertz, Cindy Sobel and Andrew MacNally helped their clients—the founders, former employees, and early investors of FanDuel—revive claims against the company and two private equity investors stemming from its 2018 merger with European sports bookmaker Paddy Power Betfair. The New York Court of Appeals, the state’s high court, last week agreed with the intermediate appellate court that Scots law applied, but reversed the lower court’s decision dismissing the case finding the investors adequately pleaded breach of fiduciary duty claims under Scots law. Stephen Younger, formerly of Nixon Peabody, argued for the plaintiffs at the Court of Appeals. The plaintiffs’ team also included Erik Goergen and Paul Downs of Nixon Peabody.”
