Bartlit Beck Honored by The Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law as a 2000 Pro Bono Award Recipient

07.2000

Every year, the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law bestows upon at least one member firm its Pro Bono Award in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the work of the Committee.  The Committee decided to recognize Bartlit Beck this year due to the firm's aggressive litigation of a Title VII race discrimination case.  The Committee's decision was motivated by three factors:  (1) Bartlit Beck took on a type of case (Title VII employment discrimination) that the Committee has found to be very difficult to place at member firms; (2) Bartlit Beck secured a favorable settlement for the client and graciously donated its attorneys' fees to the Committee; and (3) the Committee wanted to highlight the fact that firms of varying sizes actively participate in the work of the Committee.

Clyde Murphy, Executive Director of the Lawyers' Committee, presented the award at the 31st Annual Meeting on July 19, 2000.
